Admiral Gardner Shipwreck Coins

This Shipwreck coin was recovered in 1985 from the remains of the Honorable East India Company ship, Admiral Gardner.  It wrecked on the Goodwin Sands in January, 1809 while in route to Madras, India.  It was carrying a cargo of copper ingots and coins dated 1808.  Because copper was the least valuable of all the precious metals, these coins were specially minted in 1808 for the East India Company to use in India to pay the common laborers.

This coins are in Excellent, Never Circulated Condition!

The coins offered here were recovered from the wreck almost two centuries later and are of better quality than often seen. The obverse of these coins bears the Coat of Arms of the East India Company. The reverse shows a Persian inscription giving the coins' values in the diplomatic language of Mughal, India - "XX or 20 Cash" - an equivalent of 1.5 farthings in 1808. That made them acceptable by the local laborers as their medium of exchange.

Now you can own a rare and valuable shipwreck coin and also own a piece of the famous East India Trading company as shown in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Comes complete with Certificate of Authenticity.
